But my other hiccup is that since this was the first time I raised it, I took it up a bit higher than I wanted and I want to know how you manage to lower it "slowly and carefully" with ratchet straps?Īny ideas, suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated because I have to lower it down eventually. The first hiccup I had was since I only have 2 straps (one for each side) as you mentioned, one end lifts up and it tends to tilt - I quickly found a solution for that by just pushing the top and sliding the top a bit till it levels off.
I have the 4 eye bolts all set and have it hoisted and held up by harbor freights 20 foot 2" ratchet straps.
Because of this write up, I made mine this past weekend. Thanks so much for inspiring me to do my own hoist. Right now I'm just enjoying this weather and driving around with the soy top down. I might look into bolting that up and using that instead, I'll see. While I was at Harbor Freight I saw that they had a small electrical winch on sale for $39. Other then that its a great alternative to the more expensive hoist systems. Loosening the straps slowly was a bit difficult and I had to do it slowly and alternating the sides then shifting the top so it sat straight instead of at an angle. The only thing that slowed down the process was the lowering part. so I figured I would give the ratchet idea a try first and if it didn't work I would try something else. I use the space as a work out room whenever I'm not building stuff or working on the Jeep.
